Welcome!

Dear colleagues,

Welcome to the 20th RESER Conference

The Resilience of the Global Service Economy

On behalf of the European Association for Research on Services, RESER, its President, Metka Stare, and the local organizing committee it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the RESER annual conference in Gothenburg 2010. The conference will take place from the 30th of September to the 2nd of October. The annual conference celebrates its 20th anniversary and it is with great joy that we are able to host this event in Sweden for the first time.

The conference will be hosted by the School of Business, Economics and Law, at the University of Gothenburg. The modern city campus hosts about 3700 students and 400 staff members. The school opened its doors on the 1st of October 1923 and has since been a leading institution in Sweden for research and education in close cooperation with business and society.

It is the intention of the organizing committee that this meeting will provide the opportunity for the participants not only to contribute their knowledge and experience and exchange ideas, but also to interact with each other as well as enjoying the pleasant city of Gothenburg. The city was founded in the 17th century with influences from Dutch, British and German business people and is today the second largest city in Sweden. It has always been characterized by an open atmosphere with a vital trading legacy with the rest of the world. World renowned companies such as AB Volvo, Volvo Car Corporation, Stena and SKF among others have their origin and headquarters in the city. Today, the city is furthermore an important service industry location, where high-end consultancies create value. The city is also an attractive event location for fairs and sports and the numbers of vistiors are increasing every year. The location and the beautiful surrounding archipelago have a strong positive impact on the quality of life.

We wish you a warm welcome and hope to see you in Gothenburg!
